Counterfeit Beanie Babies

Counterfeit Beanie Babies began to appear in the USA and elsewhere in the mid to
late 90s during the period when Beanie Baby values were skyrocketing on the
secondary market. Significant efforts by Ty Inc., U.S. federal authorities and
knowledgeable Ty collectors helped to reduce counterfeit production and
distribution but the number of counterfeited items was so high that even today,
collectors are often surprised to discover their "prized Beanie" is a fake. Some
counterfeiters became so bold they even mimicked known authentication services
and issued counterfeit authentication certificates.
This section will feature comparison photographs of counterfeit and authentic
Beanie Babies and other Ty collectibles. Pending publication of our comparison
photographs; here is a partial listing of the Beanie Babies known to have been
counterfeited. This list is not all inclusive but shows names of the more
commonly-known counterfeit Beanie Babies. Please
notify us if you know of
additional counterfeit Beanie Babies not included on this list.
We pay $5
plus the cost of postage for any counterfeit Beanie Babies we don't already have
in our collection. Counterfeits we purchase must be in mint condition with mint
swing and tush tags. An * (asterisk) in the list below indicates counterfeit
Beanie Babies we still need in our collection for reference.
Our objective is to compile a comprehensive reference library of counterfeit
Beanie Baby information for the benefit of all current and future Ty collectors.
It saddens us when we see multiple bidders on eBay for an obvious counterfeit.
In many cases the sellers themselves don't know an item they listed is
counterfeit. Unfortunately though, there are also sellers who knowingly list
counterfeits and count on the naiveté of new
collectors to get the item sold.
The only protection a collector has against
unscrupulous sellers is to learn as much as possible about counterfeit Beanie
Babies or to avoid purchasing high value Ty collectibles than have not been
authenticated by True Blue Beans, Peggy Gallagher or PBBags.
